Chris and Warren Hellman created the Hellman Fellows Program in 1994, providing grants to colleges and universities in support of junior faculty research. From the experience of their own children, they made an educated guess that junior faculty would benefit from awards early in their career, when other sources of funding are scarce. They were right.
Over the years, the program has expanded to 14 institutions and has supported more than 1,000 junior faculty members who are advancing their chosen fields of inquiry. These individuals are now chairs and heads of departments, MacArthur "genius grant" winners, and tenured faculty with long track records of successful research projects.
The Hellman Fellows Program is a separate and distinct entity, and does not receive any funding from the Hellman Foundation. More information about the Hellman Fellows program is available on their website.
