Hellman Foundation Invites Applications for the Hellman Collaborative Change Initiative

Open to ambitious cross-sector collaborations in Alameda and San Francisco Counties

Application Period: February 7, 2022 – March 16, 2022
We are thrilled to announce an open call for applications for 2022 Hellman Collaborative Change Initiative awards. Proposals will be accepted from February 7 to March 16, 2022. Please visit our website for the latest information about the application process.

This year we will award up to four grants to support bold cross-sector collaborations in Alameda and San Francisco Counties that are tackling our toughest community challenges.

We are eager to invest in collaborations that are:
  • Developing concrete solutions to expand equity and opportunity
  • Working collaboratively to tackle critical local issues, including our priority areas of health, education, and equitable opportunities
  • Advancing ambitious goals by engaging with various sectors, including: government, non-profit, academia, corporate, and others
  • Launching innovative strategies and pilot activities OR building momentum and scaling proven solutions for citywide or countywide impact

Since 2014, the Collaborative Change Initiative has awarded almost $11M to fund collaborations that have made our communities healthier, expanded educational opportunities, and delivered pioneering solutions for those most in need. Furthermore, it is a particularly critical time to partner with those working together to expand fairness and equity for all. During COVID-19, organizations have increased their resilience and collaborative work to ensure the basic needs of their communities. Our Bay Area counties need promising new solutions to address system-level disparities that have widened since the pandemic.

We recognize that long-term systems change requires bold community-led solutions backed by meaningful financial and organizational support. That is why the Hellman Foundation applies a trust-based philanthropy approach to rebalance power and center communities. The Collaborative Change Initiative also offers tailored capacity building to ensure the success of our collaborative partners.

This year, the application will be available online starting February 7, 2022. Learn more about HOW TO APPLY on our website and watching our webinar held on February 17th from 10:00-11:00 am PT. The webinar provided more information to potential applicants about the Collaborative Change Initiative, the LAUNCH and GROWTH tracks, and the online application platform.

Thank you for your commitment to creating a more equitable, healthier, and stronger Bay Area. We look forward to learning more about the work you do.
